Hand Ripped Cabbage [手撕包菜]
One thing I love about Chinese cuisine is that there are so many ways to cook vegetables in a quick and delicious way. Most typically, vegetable dishes are more subdued in flavor to complement the rest of the meal. However, this cabbage recipe can be a whole center piece on its own.
Serves 1 | Prep time 5 minutes | Cook time is 15 minutes
Ingredients
Cabbage, rip off 5 whole leaves
Garlic, 3 cloves, coarsely sliced
Fresh chili pepper, 1, coarsely chopped
Dried chili pepper, 1
Ginger, 3 slices, cut into thin strips
Oil, 2 tbsps.
Soy sauce, 1.5 tbsps.
Vinegar, 0.5 tbsp.
Steps
1. Using your hands, rip the cabbage into approx. 3 inch pieces, discard the thick vein in the middle.
2. In a pan, heat oil until sizzling. Add chili peppers, ginger, and garlic. Sautee for 3 minutes
3. Add in cabbage, soy sauce, and vinegar. Stir for another 5 minutes until evenly heated.
4. Cover and cook on medium-low heat (make sure there is enough liquids in the pot) for another 5 minutes. Serve.
